Police shoots one dead in Rwampara

One Boda boda rider from Bugamba sub county-Rwampara in Mbarara district was shot dead and another injured in a scuffle with Police.

Sekate told journalists that about 100 Boda boda riders stormed Bugamba police post in an effort to take out two suspects who had been detained on allegation of stealing a motorcycle UAJ 997 boxer.

"Police officer Cop. Moses Magara tried to shoot in air to scare away the bodaboda riders but all in vain. They kept advancing prompting police to shoot two with stray bullets," Sekate explained.

He said Boda boda riders also destroyed the house of the OC including all documents

He identified the suspects who were in detention as Yonna Nuwajuna and Hakimu Mugizi, a security guards at MTN mast in Bugamba.

The two were reported to police by Silver Ndyamuhaki for stealing his motorcycle. Ndyamuhaki with the help of residents arrested the suspects and took them to police.

On learning about the arrest of the suspects, the bodaboda-cyclists rushed and confronted the police asking them to surrender the suspects which police objected by firing stray bullets in air to scare them away

Sekate cautioned the public not to take the law into their hands; that they should also allow police to investigate warning that whatever action people take like attacking police is criminal.
