The I am Kansiime show raised some eyebrows from the day the announcement were sent out? Anne Kansiime, who has been receiving "international" awards at a weekly basis, was finally going to show us whether she is worth the hype.
The first time she stepped onto that stage in Imperial Royale Hotel on Thursday showed the tension. Her first words were in an apologetic tone, like she was appealing to us not forgive her if she messes.
Then she returned with the doll (character of her daughter), and again she started off timidly. However, she was quick to dig into her confidence reservoirs. She found them, and from there the show went from one high moment to another.
On her second set, she was a free bird; fully engaging the audience in some chit chat, calling on individuals like her parents, her husband, Emma Kakai (one of her many managers) and Patrick Idringi. What she liked in sophistication, she made up for by her warmth.
Throughout the show, they kept on announcing that Yvonne Chaka Chaka was the chief guest. No one expected her to sing, but she did. We thought she would only come up to the stage, hand a bouquet of flowers to Kansiime, talk about talent and girl child then walk off. She did much more, performing two songs not only to applause but also dance.
At the end of the night, Anne Kansiime proved that she was worth some awards she has received. However, we still thought that some of the awards could be due to her endearing child character and not her comedy credentials.
