Students shun Makerere guild re-election

Students say that if they are to vote again, the entire university should re-vote.

KAMPALA - Re-voting at Makerere University's School of Education failed to take place in the guild presidential polls after students refused to cast their ballot.

The re-election had been scheduled for Wednesday morning - from 8am to 5pm.

This followed the annulment of Bazil Biddemu Mwotta's win after his close rival Roy Ssemboga filed a petition, citing irregularities in the electoral process.

The election tribunal sat on Monday this week and found out that there were anomalies in the electoral process particularly in the School of Education, and therefore ruling that voting in the school be repeated.

But on re-voting day, students shunned the exercise, saying that if they are to vote again, the entire university should re-vote.

This forced the university's electoral commission to take back the ballot boxes and voting materials.

Makerere University's new guild president will be announced after the re-election.
