Power make sweeping changes ahead of new season

A tide of change is sweeping through five-time National Basketball champions Power.

From the boardroom, to the bank account, to the playing and coaching staff, Power is undergoing a shakeup, although it may be short of the revolution that some hoped for.

The club released a statement detailing the new changes; not least the ending of the partnership with sponsors TigerHead batteries.

"We would hereby like to thank the management of TigerHead batteries for taking us through the past two years and supporting us through two exciting seasons…" read the statement in part.

It then revealed that Patrick Omera would no longer continue as club president, adding, "Your tireless efforts got us as a team through a very difficult time and we are grateful for your love and support".

Bernice Ankunda was also relieved of his services as Power coach - this for a third time - with the club grateful for the "time and sacrifice that he has made in getting the club the FUBA titles in 2008, 2010, 2011 and the support he continues to give us as a club."

Power's new management team includes Peter Mubanda (as president), Allan Musoke (general manager), Maurice Kirego and Elliot Bagenda (as finance directors), Zakia Maseruka (PR), Maureen Byokela (team manager), Caleb Ernest (technical director), Jacob Okumu (behavioural strategist) and finally Brian Wathum as head coach.

However, with the exception of Ernest, all the new officials were playing some kind of role within the club or did so in the past.

Still, the statement asserts that, "The main goal for the change is to re-evaluate the strategic direction of the club and implement a plan to produce results that reflect positively on the organisation on and off the court and return to the business of winning championships".
