Pope Francis led a procession through St. Peter’s Square to usher in Holy Week, the solemn period leading to Easter

Celebrated events organizer and music promoter Balaam Barugahara was among the faithful Catholics clutching olive branches and braided palm fronds who received Pope Francis' blessings in St. Peter's Basilica Square in Rome on Sunday.

Balaam who posted photos of himself in the company of a female friend on Face Book flew to Rome over the weekend especially for the function which attracted thousands of faithfuls from around the world.

Pope Francis who delivered his Palm Sunday homily in an outdoor Mass earlier today, first led a procession through St. Peter's Square to usher in Holy Week, the solemn period leading to Easter.

After the Mass, Francis joyfully greeted tens of thousands of people as he toured the square in his white popemobile, and met some children who could have included Balaam's child aboard for a while.
