Museveni was nominated legally - EC lawyer

Enos Tumusime the Electoral Commission (EC) lead counsel in an election petition before the Supreme Court has told court that President-elect Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was legally nominated in accordance with the law.

He defended the election body's extension of the nomination date on grounds that the candidates and the Electoral Commission had to comply with the amendments to the Presidential and Parliamentary Elections Act which included a hike in the nomination fees.

Tumusime submitted that the amendments necessitated EC to extend the nomination dates to November 3.

"The reason why we had this extension was not to favor Museveni but to comply with the new amendments," he said.
