URA to conduct mass furniture auction

Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has organised a clearance sale by auctioning furniture of a Chinese company Lifemate over failure to pay tax arrears of more than sh2.1b.

The company's main shop along Jinja Road was recently closed down and its Xing Xing Warehouse in Nalukolongo was confiscated by URA over unpaid taxes.

URA debts manager Abdulsallaam Waiswa called on Ugandans to flock the warehouse on Thursday for the auction.

"We closed their shop in December because of tax defaulting. We've conducted three auctions already but some items remain unsold hence organizing this massive auction" Waiswa said.

He added that if the Authority fails to raise the debt in carriers, they will still look for the company managers and sue them.
