Parents cannot afford buying them scholastic materials

By Annet Anaro

The senior labour officer in Pallisa district, George Onyait, has noted with concern that poverty in most families in Pallisa is the main reason why parents fail to send their children to school.

He says some parents cannot afford to buy scholastic materials for their children who in turn prefer to have their children stay home and help them in domestic chores.

"Most of the children are seen in rice plantations chasing birds," Onyait adds

He explains that due to the limited funds, the labour office finds it hard to sensitize parents in the entire district to at least send their children to school but challenges parents to take responsibility.
