Unidentified people desecrate grave, take off with the skull

Bugiri District Police commander, Edirisa Kyeyune confirmed the case saying no body has been arrested in connection with the incident.


Police in Bugiri District are hunting for unidentified people over desecrating a grave.

The anonymous persons, suspected to be herbalists, are reported to have made off with the skull of the deceased.

The Sunday night incident occurred at Nawango, Nankoma Sub County in Bugiri district.

Bugiri District Police commander, Edirisa Kyeyune confirmed the case saying no body has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Kyeyune said the suspects that are still at large; reportedly desecrate the grave of Aisha Namusobya.

Particulars of the deceased obtained by police from relatives, indicated that Namusobya then aged 50, died of natural illness, four years ago.

The village Local Council (LC.1) chairperson, Vincent Musene, said relatives of the deceased woke up on Monday morning to find the deceased's grave desecrated.

"Apart from the skull, the other remains of the deceased were found abandoned by the grave side," said Musene.

The DPC said Police has since visited the scene and advised relatives to re-bury the partial remains of the deceased.

"We have obtained vital leads that I'm sure would aid us apprehension of culprits behind the horrendous act," said Kyeyune without commenting further.

In a statement recorded at police by Musene at Bugiri Central Police station stated that this is not the first time the village is experiencing such acts.

He said the phenomenon had broke out 4 years ago, but stopped after natives mobilized themselves and rounded up three suspects.

At the time, angry mob had lynched one of the suspects while the two others handed over to the authorities were still serving their sentences.
