Dusman cautions drivers on time keeping, safety

FMU president Dusman Okee and his executive hosted rally drivers to a luncheon on Saturday.

If it were a competition event, only Wycliff Bukenya would have been flagged off, but it was a get together where many of the rally drivers arrived late.

It happened at Kati Kati restaurant where newly elected FMU president Dusman Okee and his executive hosted rally drivers to a luncheon on Saturday.

In the end it turned out to be a blessing in disguise as newly elected FMU president Dusman Okee used the glitch to remind the crews about time keeping since 'motor sport was presumed to be about time'.

"I'm very delighted to be with you here today. Thanks for those who made it on time, but this event has exposed us about time keeping; we must keep time if we are to drive the sport as a family," Okee advised.

"We are very appreciative for the efforts you put into the sport. We are going to be a federation for the drivers and fans and I'm here to congratulate you for having returned power to yourselves; this is not about Okee since we are only caretakers for the millions out there,"

"I'm a hands-on person and will be out with the fans out there because this is the spirit that is going to propel us to greater heights. We are still enjoying the honeymoon but we know the barbs will soon come to us but we are ready," Okee stated.

He cautioned them on posting their grievances on social media before asking them to ensure safety first at all times during the events.

He told the crews that he was happy that several sponsors and fans were returning to the sport and that for the first time Uganda had been featured in the FIA magazine a sign that the world body had confidence in the new team.

"We are now the darling and baby of the FIA but we are the baby who are not members and are indebted to them so we still have a long way to go to put our house in order," Okee stated.
