Uganda to experience heavy rains

Munaba said that the heavy rains are likely to cause floods and landslides in different parts of the country.


Environment state minister, Flavia Munaba, has said that Uganda will experience heavy rains in the next two months.

Addressing the press at the Uganda Media Centre Wednesday, the minister called upon stakeholders to put across necessary measures to ensure that the effects that come with heavy rains are mitigated.

Munaba said that the heavy rains are likely to cause floods and landslides in different parts of the country.

Munaba also called for the clearing of drainage systems to avoid water logging on streets and preposition of the maintenance logistics like bull dozers for repair of bridges that might become submerged or washed away due to flash floods.

Munaba further urged the Ministry of Health to increase its disease surveillance systems, saying that there might be an upsurge in epidemics related to rainy season like Malaria, Cholera, Bilharzia and Typhoid and lower respiratory diseases like Asthma shall occur.

"The predicted rains require action in sufficient time and in an appropriate manner so as to take advantage of the information," she said.
