There is plenty to win in the one-day South African Airways sponsored tournament

Over 200 golfers take to the course on Saturday as Lady Captain Katy Kabenge crowns her two years in office with the annual Captain's Prize tournament at the Uganda Golf Club.

There is plenty to win in the one-day South African Airways sponsored tournament that also has prizes and gift hampers from Mogas, Unilever and East African Breweries.

"This is the biggest annual ladies' organised tournament and we are glad to have new and old sponsors on board this year. We had 230 golfers at last year's event and we expect an even bigger number this weekend because of the exciting prizes on offer," Kabenge told a press conference at Kitante on Wednesday.

Flanked by sponsors' representatives from Mogas (Andrew Muhwezi), South African Airways (Milcah Kubinga and Stella Kasibante) and ladies section treasurer Mary Ocheng, Kabenge said there will be two overall winners in both the men and ladies categories.

"South African Airways has provided all the trophies and the two golf bags that will go to the overall winners and the top performers while Mogas, East Africa Breweries and Unilever will provide fuel and golf related hampers for the other different winners in the men groups A-D and the women groups A-C," she said.

There will also be prizes for the best scores on the front and back 9 holes as well as fuel for the men groups A-C and lubricants for the nearest-to-the pin and longest drive winners.

Hon Lady Justice Irene Mulyagonja will be chief guest at the tournament that attracts golfers of all nationalities from different clubs across the country and region.

Last year Charity Opolot and Simon Rhee carded 65 and 64nett respectively to emerge overall winners of the same tournament.
