Makerere scoops 2016 debate award

The executive director of Human Rights Initiative, Livingstone Sewanyana told participants to continue with the debates of human rights and democracy in order to attain peaceful democracy in Uganda.
Makerere University has won the 9th inter-universities human rights debate at Ndejje University in Luweero District.
The executive director of Human Rights Initiative, Livingstone Sewanyana told participants to continue with the debates of human rights and democracy in order to attain peaceful democracy in Uganda.
Sewanyana was presiding over the debate competition on March 5, 2016.
"Everyone matters in decision making because it affects other people's lives. It is very important if other people's wishes are respected at all times," he said.
He noted that the level of research and understanding of human rights issues among the youth has improved greatly looking at the presentations by the youth.
Makerere University scooped this year'd award for the best presentation on how to attain good democracy and respect of human rights practice of the rule of law.
It was followed by Ndejje University and third runner up was Uganda Martyrs University in Mpigi district.
Over 25 Universities and other high institutions of learning participated in this year's event.
