He was picked from his shop along Republic Road near Rukungiri Total petrol filling station at around 11:50am

Police in Ntungamo is holding Darious Robert Tweyambe a former Rukungiri Municipality Mayoral candidate on the FDC ticket

Tweyambe who was also the chief campaigner for Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye in Rukungiri district, was arrested from his country home in Rukungiri on Saturday morning.

However, both Tweyambe and police in Ntungamo say they do not know about the charges against him as he has only been put in police custody awaiting transportation to Kampala.

Tweyambe said that he was picked from his shop along Republic Road near Rukungiri Total petrol filling station at around 11:50am and put into a waiting police patrol pickup belonging to Rukungiri police station only to be driven to Ntungamo where he was put in custody.

The police in Ntungamo said they've not charged him yet and has no file at the station.

"There is no information about him here, they have requested us to just put him in custody here and he will be transported to Kampala soon. We do not know when and who will pick him from here but we are waiting," Bosco Gume Salongo, the Ntungamo officer in charge of Criminal Investigations Department told the media at Ntungamo police.

Tweyambe said the arrest was connected to the campaigns and Dr. Besigye's victory in Rukungiri district.

"They have nothing they can charge me with but to try and threaten me as has been the case," Tweyambe told New Vision at Ntungamo police.

He was among the 21 PRA suspects including Besigye, who were involved in several court battles. He and seven others won the case while some sought amnesty from treason charges.

Tweyambe said he was still firm enough to battle whatever will come his way.

A security source in Rukungiri who preferred anonymity told New Vision that the suspect is accused of sending inciting messages via social media and is destined for Special Crime Investigations Unit in Kireka, Kampala for questioning.
