Mbabazi election petition pre-trial gets underway

Amama Mbabazi filed a petition at the Supreme Court citing irregularities in the elections. He wants the results annulled

Former premier John Patrick Amama Mbabazi's election petition is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Monday morning before the justices of the Supreme Court.

Lawyers representing President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Electoral Commission, the Attorney General and Mbabazi's lawyers will meet and agree on how the hearing will be conducted.

The former presidential candidate polled 1.39% of the total votes cast; last week filed a petition at the Supreme Court citing irregularities in the elections. He wants the results annulled.

Museveni was on February 20th, declared the winner of the presidential race with 60.62% of the votes, while his closest rival Dr. Col. Kizza Besigye, got 35.61% of the total votes cast.
