LC5 candidate explains low voter turn up

The Masaka district LC 5 Candidate, Matia Mulindwa Kagugube (Independent) has attributed the low turn up of voters in the
district to the defeat of President Museveni and Parliamentary NRM flag bearers.

"Our NRM voters in Masaka have lost interest in voting the district chairpersons and councillors. The defeat of the National party flag bearer and the parliamentary flag bearers demoralized many party supporters," he said.

FDC President Candidate, Kizza Besigye defeated President Museveni with a difference of 5800 votes whereas DP swept the district parliamentary elections in Masaka except the Vice President, Edward Ssekandi.

Katwe polling station looking deserted

Ssekandi (NRM) defeated the DP flag bearer, Andrew Batemyeto  to  win the Bukoto Central Constituency.

Masaka Municipality MP, Mathias Mpuga(DP)defeated  Herman Ssentongo(NRM), Babirye Kabanda (DP) defeated the out going district woman MP, Frida Mubanda(NRM) while the Bukoto East MP, Florence Namayanja  floured  Dr Abudallah Nkoyoyo(NRM).

Dr Nkoyoyo told The New Vision that he went on a mobilization tour of the voters in Bukoto East constituency encouraging them to go and vote.

The rest of the Parliamentary candidates who won in Masaka like, Babirye Kabanda,Florence Namayanja and  Mpuga were forced to move to the villages mobilizing them to go and vote especially in Kyanamukaka,Kabonela,Buwunga and Mukungwe.

He said the majority of NRM supporters in the constituency had refused to participate in the elections on grounds that their victory at parliamentary race was cheated.

However, the Masaka district LC 5 DP flag bearer, Jude Mbabali explained that the victory of President Museveni at the nation level also demoralized DP supporters.

"The voters in Masaka lost hope the election exercise,they felt cheated, all hopes were on Besigye," he said.

Mbabali who stormed Masaka Police Station accused the police of intimidating his polling agents especially in Kyanamukaka.

Mbabali is competing with the district incumbet chairman, Joseph Kalungi(NRM) The voters turn up was extremely poor by 4pm.

The elections in Masaka were generally calm.
