9 Jailed for assaulting West Budama North MP elect

The MP elect and his supporters were celebrating their victory against the incumbent MP Fox Odoi.

Court in Tororo has remanded nine suspects to Morukaipe Prison for allegedly assaulting the newly elected Member of Parliament for West Budama North Richard Okoth Othieno and his supporters.

Prosecution told the court presided over by the Chief Magistrate Esther Nakadama Mubiru, that the accused assaulted and caused bodily harm to Othieno Okoth and four of his supporters including Obbo Oketch, Robert Onyango, Oburu Lawrence and Oketch Ochandi.

Court heard that the suspects led by a one Moses Basoga committed the offence on Saturday when they laid an ambush at Katandi trading centre in Kirewa sub county armed with pangas, clubs and hot water and attacked Othieno and  his supporters.

The MP elect and his supporters were in a procession celebrating their victory against the incumbent MP Fox Odoi.

Nakadama remanded the suspects until 25/02/2016 after prosecution said that the inquiries were not yet complete .
