2 grenades found at Kampala explosion scene

The victim who was killed on spot was identified as Sam Lukamba, a 10-year-old pupil of Faith Primary School.

Police on Thursday morning discovered two grenades at an explosion scene in Mengo, Kampala where one person was killed injuring 8 others Wednesday night.

According Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, the bomb squad has sealed off the scene as investigations go on.

Police said another team of detectives was making a follow up on the victims.

"We want to caution the public especially children, against playing and or tampering with objects they are not sure of, but instead inform the police for further assistance," Police said in a statement.

According to eye witnesses, about 20 children were playing soccer in a vacant field near Lubiri - the seat of Buganda Kingdom - when the device exploded. There was no dent on the palace.

Some of the victims were rushed to Mulago Referral Hospital but by 8:00pm local time, two of the casualties had reportedly succumbed to their injuries. Most of the victims sustained injuries on their legs and arms.
