Minister appoints new NCS board

Feb 15, 2016

Out of the eleven board members, the minister has issued appointment letters to eight of the members, who were on the old board.

Minister of State for Sports Charles Bakkabulindi has appointed new board members for the National Council of Sport with two new faces.

Although minister Bakkabulindi has re-appointed previous chairman Bosco Onyik in the same office, he has dropped five members and reappointed new faces Hassan Mudiiba and Tom Amiito.

Out of the eleven board members, the minister has issued appointment letters to eight of the members, who were on the old board.

The decision casts doubts on whether or not Charles Egou Engwau, Haji Badru Sabila, Patrick Okanya, Sam Odongo and police officer Andrew Sorowen will be reappointed on the board.

No reason has been given for why only eight names have been announced yet but according to Onyik, the minister will appoint three more members soon.

The eight members on the board are John Bosco Onyik (Chairman), Margaret Rwabushaija, William Beyeza, Herric Chebrion, Kato Kawuma and Haji Zubairi Galiwango. The two year term for the new board runs from February 2016 to February 2018.

As they concluded their previous term, head of the technical committee of the board Zubair Galiwango said that if re-appointed, his committee would entrench sports at the grassroots level.

However, Galiwango concedes that they did not fulfill their plans to build district offices as well as strengthening federations and associations technically in terms of training coaches and referees as they had been mandated.

"When the minister (of state for sports Charles Bakkabulindi) appointed this board, his instructions were clear. I'm proud to say that we met large part of the targets apart from establishing NCS offices at district levels and building capacity by training coaches and umpires," Galiwango said.

Among achievements of the previous board minimized fights among federations and associations and to harmonize existence of national sports bodies in the country with NCS.
