Universities urged to bridge the unemployment gap

Dr. Joyce Asiimwe, a member at university governing council has advised universities to strive towards addressing the unemployment gap by offering more practical oriented courses.

Asiimwe on Friday commended the International School of Business and Technology (ISBAT) for striving towards excelling in hands on and information technology skills during the event to accredit it a University.

She urged all universities to develop a strategy that bridges the unemployment gap to address the unemployment question.

Varghese Mundamattam, chairman at ISBAT commended national council for higher education (NCHE) for accrediting ISBAT.

"It is our continued quest to change lives of our students and pledge to give them skills that will empower them economically through better skills," said Mundamattam.

Fred Omach, the University Chancellor promised to ensure that ISBAT University develops holistic people who contribute to society through inspiration and innovation thereby empowering their lives.

According to Arun Sagai, head of planning and development at ISBAT,   youths need to be encouraged to appreciate technology because all businesses are excelling due to ICT.

Sagai said to increase the employability of Ugandans, there is need to prioritize practical skills and develop business that offer answers to the unemployment question.
