Abudul Mugerwa’s love for his work is one factor that drives him into becoming more innovative every day.

Since child hood, he has always admired people who earned from hands on work than those who did professional jobs.

Abudul Mugerwa's love for his work is one factor that drives him into becoming more innovative every day.

In the beginning when he told his friends that he was going to start making charcoal stoves for sale, many wondered where he would get capital.

However he told them that his head was his capital since it was hands on work, he started with only sh 100,000.

Today he makes energy saving charcoal stoves, fire wood stoves and other efficient energy saving technologies from Mukono Kiwanga.

How he does it

He collects clay from the surrounding areas. He then buys aluminum metallic iron sheets, metals, tiles and clay bricks. All those help him come up with the kind of stoves his clients like.

He makes charcoal and firewood stoves coupled with ovens in different sizes that suit the needs of his clients. He beatifies them with tiles on all sides which gives his products more value.

"My stoves are very good for big families and they use little energy because of the vermiculite ingredient that is mixed with the clay, "he says.

He adds that the vermiculite ingredient absorbs heat that as long as the stove or oven heats up, you don't need to add a lot of charcoal or fire wood.

Challenges

He cites price fluctuation which at time forces him to increase the prices of his items as the main challenge.

His prices range from  sh20000 to sh16m depending on the item and size.

Achievements

Its 10 years since he started making stoves and he has been able to pay school fees for his children.

He has also bought land.
