Police summons Otafiire, rival after supporters clash

The clashes took place at Ekisementi trading center in Kashenshero sub county town council in Mitooma district

Police has summoned the Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs Gen. Kahinda Otafiire and his political rival Capt. Dononzio Kahonda.

This follows Sunday's incident where supporters of the two candidates for the Ruhinda County MP seat clashed, leaving three people injured. 

Michael Musani, the Mid-South Western Region police commander said his office and that of the district Electoral Commission registrar asked Otafiire and Kahonda to appear before them to explain what triggered the clashes.

The clashes took place at Ekisementi trading center in Kashenshero sub county town council in Mitooma district as Kahonda, the NRM party flag bearer was on his way to hold a rally in Kashenshero town council. Otafiire's home is a few meters away from Kashenshero town council. 

The injured; Gilvasio Mwesigye; Rodgers Muramuzi and Marion Komugasho were rushed to Kampala International University Teaching Hospital in Ishaka, Bushenyi.

Police in Mitooma have so far detained up to 17 persons suspected to have been ringleaders of the ugly clashes.
