Police has apologised to the people of Kooki over the way their cultural leader Kamuswaga Apollo Sansa Kabumbuli was handled by security of vice president Edward Kiwanuka Sekandi.

In a statement issued Sunday by the assistant Inspector General of Police Asan Kasingye, the incident was blamed on the officers' poor judgment.

"The truly unfortunate incident occurred when the cultural leader who was casually dressed and driving himself, attempted to dangerously overtake the convoy of H.E The Vice President, Edward Kiwanuka Sekandi, in a manner that drew suspicion from his security who arrested him believing he wanted to harm The Vice President" the statement read in part.

Kasingye said that the IGP on learning about the incident intervened and immediately ordered for the release of the cultural leader and extended his apologies to him, his family and the wider Kooki fraternity, over the distress and dishonor caused.

"The gesture was very much appreciated by the cultural leader as he looks forward to a meeting with the IGP" the statement continued.

"Although the police continue to believe that the incident was based on very poor judgment by the officers, it is going to focus more on the highest standards of conduct of all officers, to ensure that all cultural leaders are afforded the dignity and respect they deserve"
