Military police mark end of Tarehe Sita

The Military Police have marked the end of the Tarehe Sita Week with a route match from their headquarters in Makindye through Kampala streets as one of the activities to climax their week-long activities as a people's army.

 

The route match was the climax of the many activities that the army men and women were involved in, which included distribution of mosquito nets to 250 pregnant women and children in Kikaramoja and Kirombe zones in Makindye division.

 

The theme for this year's celebration that started on January 29 is UPDF; The People's Army, Vanguard of the Revolution and Guarantor of Peace and Stability for Social Economic Transformation and Democracy'.

 

The military police spokesperson, Capt. Edward Birungi said the force was involved in cleaning the roadsides and around homes in Makindye division and a medical outreach at Katwe Primary School where a number of people were treated for different illnesses by the force's medical team.

 

He said the medical team attended to over 500 clients who received drugs while other cases were referred.  Other activities included construction of a four-stance pit latrine in Kikaramoja and renovation of a dilapidated one in the same area.

 

"Our mission is to give back to the people who support us in whatever we do. As a people's army we are held accountable for the people because we have all comes from them,  that is why we intervene in their challenging situations," he explained.

 

He said it was vital for the force to involve civilians as they remembered their history.

The commandant of the military barracks, Col. Emmanuel Kanyesigye received the soldiers after the match.
