SC Villa sign new players

The most successful club in Uganda’s football history is five points behind leaders KCCA FC.

Ahead of the second round of the Azam Premier League, SC Villa have signed three players - midfielder Mike Sserumaga, goalkeeper Nicholas Sebwato and winger Mike Ndera.

Villa, currently fifth on the table, hope the introductions will help the club clinch a record 14th league title.

The most successful club in Uganda's football history is five points behind leaders KCCA FC but head coach Ibrahim Kirya believes the likes of Sserumaga and Ndera will strengthen the club.

Sebwato is returning to Villa Park after playing half a season for Tanzania-based side Coastal Union FC.

"I am happy to be back at Villa," said the goalie (pictured left) who had previously played for Villa in the 2014/15 season before joining the Tanzanian outfit.

Meanwhile, Sserumaga will bring his vast footballing experience to the side, having left 12th placed Lweza FC where he was a player of both influence and significance.

Ndera, who plays on the flanks, has been signed from BUL FC, who are 10th in the standings.

Villa parted ways with Spanish coach Antonio Flores in October last year after a woeful start to the season. Flores was relieved of his duties hardly four months in charge.

Now the club hopes to put that forgettable start behind them and focus on battling for the title.

According to coach Kirya, the team will resume official training on Monday next week.

He says he is confident his side will clinch the title as well as the Uganda Cup this season.
