Kakembo beat Nigeria’s Waidi ‘Skoro’ Usman to the coveted title in Lagos.

Justin ‘The Ugandan Destroyer' Juuko has hailed boxer Edward ‘The Messiah' Kakembo for winning the African Boxing Union (ABU) featherweight title saying the win paints a brighter future for the raising star.

Kakembo beat Nigeria's Waidi ‘Skoro' Usman to the coveted title in Lagos on December 26.

Usman, regarded as Nigeria's genuine boxing talent was the West African region king before the Ugandan trimmed him down to size infront of his own fans.

The Uganda budding prize fighter prevailed over the 12 rounds to win on a splint-point decision.

And Juuko who has fought greats including World Champion Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao believes that the Uganda can match anyone on the global stage.

"I know Kakembo very well. He is a good fighter with big potential. All he needs is to set a goal and work hard towards achieving it," said Juuko, the US-based former star who is on holiday in Kampala.

"This (ABU featherweight title) is just a stepping stone that can help him conquer the world. Now that he has an African title, it is going to get tougher. Before, nobody knew him. He has been exposed now. He needs to sacrifice more if he is to excel further," warned Juuko.

The victory improved Kakembo's fight record to 10 wins in as many fights.
