The Police in Kampala have arrested a woman, Hadijah Namubiru, following allegations that she stabbed her seven-year-old daughter over sh5000.

The girl (name withheld) is admitted at Mulago Hospital with stab-wounds on the face. The incident took place at Namuwongo, a Kampala suburb, on Wednesday last week.

According to a neighbour, the girl is alleged to have picked sh5,000 from her mother's handbag. The neighbour who heard the girl sobbing for long, was forced to get out of his house to investigate the cause. He found her bleeding profusely, he said.

He then alerted other residents who rushed the girl to a nearby clinic, from where she was referred to Mulago Hospital.

The Police were alerted about the incident and they rushed the girl to Mulago.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango said Namubiru was detained at Kisugu Police post. But he said Police was considering giving her bond since she has younger children to take care of.

Child rights abuses remain high in Uganda. The Police's bi-annual crime report between January and June last year indicates that 7,408 cases of child-related offences were reported compared to 7,281 cases in 2014 over the same period giving an increase of 1.7%.
