Police to deploy in Gomba ahead of general elections

Police is set to pitch camp in Gomba district following violence that marred the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primary elections in the district recently which left several people injured.

Police is set to pitch camp in Gomba district following violence that marred the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primary elections in the district recently which left several people injured.

According to Katonga region police publicist, Philip Mukasa, police will deploy in larger numbers in the three districts under the Katonga region.

“We are going to deploy our police personnel both plain clothed and in uniform in the three districts but we’ll put more emphasis on Gomba district after the violence that marred the NRM party primary elections” Mukasa noted.

Gomba west constituency NRM primaries for district flag bearer and district woman flag bearer were suspended following missing names for some of the contestants on the ballot papers.

As a result, supporters from different camps started fighting demanding for elections to be suspended and violence rocked the whole process in the district.

Elections in Gomba west were suspended by the district registrar Paddy Ssempiga and so was elections for the district flag bearer and woman MP.

Police arrested and detained six people at Kanoni police station

In Mpigi district, police is still hunting for the owner of the vehicle registration number UAA 753A which was impounded by police on October 26 in Mpigi town loaded with sticks and stones which police suspected were to be used for beating up people after the declaration of results.

Philip Mukasa , police publicist for Katonga region said police through traffic has sent police forms to Uganda revenue authority for verification of the proper ownership of the vehicle and upon verification police will begin the search for the owner.
