Mubaje was on Friday meeting a delegation of officials from the Eastern Muslim Scholars organization (EMS) in his office at the UMSC Headquarters Old Kampala, according to a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, Hajj Nsereko Mutumba.

The Friday delegation was led by its chairman sheikh Shafe Idris Songolo. The delegates included sheikhs Said Swaleh Lubanga, Buruhan Byekwaso, Hassan Mwaita, Ibn Baaz Schools, Ismail Adi Basoga, Idris Idi Kizigo Badiru Waiswa and Dr. Hussein Bowa

According to the statement, Mubajje and the delegation discussed the Muslim unity and development as well as the continued targeting of prominent Muslim clerics by unknown gun men.

“The Mufti was informed that Muslim clerics, especially those who are championing Daawa, education and development in their localities are not safe,” the statement said.

It added: “They sighted one of the recent incidents which occurred on the night Saturday  October 3, 2015 in which Sheikh Hassan Mwaita’s home located at Nakalama Iganga District was raided by gunmen.By Allah’s mercy, Shk. Mwaita was not at home and this is how he survived.”

In response, Mubajje expressed concern over the “threatening and targeting of prominent Muslims clerics in the country noting that it is a serious security problem that must be addressed by the concerned government organs as soon as possible.”

He encouraged the Sheikhs to always report any suspicious incidents to the security organs so that action can be taken and the issue addressed in time.

He repeated his call to all Muslim clerics to desist from turning pulpits into political stands, noting that whoever does so will be sawing seeds of insecurity.
