FDC presidential flag bearer, Dr. Kizza Besigye
Besigye, has been transferred to Kira Road Police station in Kampala.

Besigye and party spokesperson Ssemujju Nganda were arrested as they left their homes and taken to Naggalama Police Post.

Police had earlier in the day camped at Besigye’s home located in Kasangati along Nangabo Road in Wakiso district to block him from leaving for the planned rallies.

Besigye has accused the Police of applying the law selectively.

At Kakindu Stadium in Jinja, where Besigye was slated to hold a rally is sealed off by the Police.

While addressing a press conference last night, the Police chief Gen Kale Kayihura faulted the FDC for not notifying the police on time.

Kayihura said their letter (FDC) signed by the party’s secretary general Nandala Mafabi was intended to notify the police about  opening of offices and mobilisation of party rallies.

“We have no problem with opening of party offices. However, by the fact that the exercise contains mobilisation of rallies, the police shall not allow,” Kayihura said, adding that, “We advise them (FDC) to postpone the rallies because the time is not due.”
