Search for Miss Teso kicks off

AFTER over six years since the idea was mooted, the idea has been revived and the search for Miss Teso (Atemele nako Teso) got underway in Serere district.

 

A businesswoman in Soroti town, Sharifa Abadalla, is sponsoring the event where the winner after the search through all the eight districts of Teso shall be crowed in December and will win a brand new vehicle.

 

A senior six student Collya Adongo of Soroti SS was crowned Miss Serere when she edged out four other contestants. Becky Amito and Christine Aguti both students of UCC Soroti became first and second runners.

 

They qualify for the final draw where Miss Teso shall be crowed in Soroti town. This week, the search will head to Kumi district.

 

"The final winner shall become the champion advocate of sensitizing girls about the dangers of early marriages and effects of fistula among woman," Sharifa said.

 

Besides that, Sharifa said that the winner shall promote Teso culture through holding discussions with students, NGOs and leaders at local level the need to preserve Teso culture.

 

Hundreds of people turned up to witness the event held at County Resort Serere town. Local artists such as Chan LEE, Triple P and Josephina entertained the guests till the wee hours of the morning.

 

"I thank God who blessed me with the beauty that enabled the judges to select me among others. I promise to serve my tribe with one heart," a happy Adongo said amidst cheers from the audience.
