Uganda sends 40 for Ambassador's Cup in Rwanda

The national Tae Kwondo team is off to Rwanda for the third Ambassadors Cup that will be taking place in Amahoro Stadium in Kigali this weekend

The national Tae Kwondo team is off to Rwanda for the third Ambassadors Cup that will be taking place in Amahoro Stadium in Kigali this weekend.


The two-day tournament has attracted close to 200 contestants from Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Congo and Rwanda the hosts.

This will be second time Uganda is taking part in the regional event and last year finished second behind hosts Rwanda.

This time Uganda is fielding a team of 40 players both in the senior and junior categories men and women.

St. Augustine International University together with Montessori International School have jointly sponsored the trip headed by vice president of Uganda Tea Kwondo Federation and managed by Caroline Mpyisi Rusita, the Principal of the University.

“We are very prepared and want to finish top in the annual tournament.

Last year when we participated for the first time we finished second,”noted Kato before departure.

He said he is more hope full in the junior team.

The tournament will be part of the preparation for Uganda to compete in the Africa qualification event due in Morocco in February next hear for the Rio Olympics in Brazil according to Kato.

Other officials on the team are Coach Badru Nturage and referees Ibrahim Bogere and Judith Aujo.

The team is expected back on Monday morning.
