Kichwamba starts competence based training for job creation

UGANDA Technical College, Kichwamba has designed a competence based education and training curriculum to assist students put in practice and acquire real life skills through establishment of projects instead of stopping at the theories.

UGANDA Technical College, Kichwamba has designed a competence based education and training curriculum to assist students put in practice and acquire real life skills through establishment of projects instead of stopping at the theories.
The students are engaged in projects like building, manufacturing products and wiring of houses to impact the practical work methodology to meet the demands of the society.
The Principal, Dr. Moses Nduhira Twesigye-Omwe said in the programme the students have constructed three residential houses, a staff club and a chapel at the college which has benefited the students in raising in-come.

He said ICT students have also designed different data base systems under their teaching and research programmes.
Nduhira noted the students are exposed to real work environment through industrial trainings where they get different categories of workers in the field.
He was briefing the MTN officials who launched free internet connectivity at the college to support government initiative to transform the economy through industrialization.
The free internet connectivity is to promote ICT knowledge in students selected from Kabale, Fort Portal, Gulu, Arua, Mpigi, Jinja and Mbale.
The initiative dubbed “21 days investing in education” is about Sh.130million, according to the General Manager, Corporate Service, Anthony Katamba.
“With the system in place, the students can now upload and download information from other education institutions for empowering the knowledge effectively,” said Katamba.
He observed with advanced technologies, people are now quick in accessing services to improve the living standards.
The launch was witnessed by one of the old boys, Prosper Mbabazi who was also a survivor of the 1998 ADF rebel attack on the college where several students were burnt to death and other abducted.
The company also donated computers to the municipal library for public use under their outreach programme which is carried in 22 countries.
He said the company is selecting up-country schools in order to uplift their standards of education since the government has put a lot of emphasis on industries.
“With such services in place, Ugandans can work for rich and big companies in USA, Japan and China,”Katamba added.
He urged the students to use the facilities and not look at them as white elephants in order to become job creators not job seekers.
