Vivo Energy the company that distributes and markets Shell branded fuels and lubricants in 16 African countries have started holding road safety training in 6 primary schools in Kampala.

Vivo Energy the company that distributes and markets Shell branded fuels and lubricants in 16 African countries have started holding road safety training in 6 primary schools in Kampala.
The initiative aims to increase road safety awareness and commitment among school children and to help change their attitude and behavior on the road, thereby indoctrinating a road safety culture among Uganda’s future generation.
The Road Safety Education Programme which was launched on the 13th March 2014, as part of the company’s corporate social investment programme will train over 1,200 school children from 12 schools in Kampala.

It is also aimed at reaching at least five million people with road safety messages on radio and training 1,200 Boda Boda operators on proper road safety behavior.
The programme will be implemented in partnership with the Safe Kids Uganda, Uganda Police, Integrated Transport Systems, and the media.
The programme activities commenced today with a session conducted at Kibuye Primary school in Makindye division and the pupils at the school were trained on road safety practices and measures that will help keep them safe on the road.

Kibuye Primary school is one of the 6 schools that will benefit from the training. Other schools will include Kiswa Primary School, Makerere University Primary School, Sunrise Primary School, Light House Primary School and St. Benedict Primary School.
Speaking during the training at Kibuye Primary School, Cerinah Zalwango, Corporate Communications Manager, Vivo Energy Uganda, cautioned the children to always look out for, and avoid unsafe situations like speeding vehicles, while using the road, and ensure they are seated and well belted in a moving vehicle.
She encouraged the children to engage in safe road practices and also urged them to be safety ambassadors at school as well as back home.
The headmaster of Kibuye Primary School, Mr. Sengambi thanked Vivo Energy Uganda for their effort and contribution towards building a safer and therefore better future for the children of Uganda.

“It is critical for our children to be aware of all issues related to their safety on the road as they come to school daily and encounter dangerous situations on the road," said Sengambi.
All Vivo Energy drivers receive defensive driving training, have on-board computers, journey management systems and an active safety-focused drivers’ club with a reward and recognition system.
The company seeks to carry its safe road usage behaviour to the communities through these trainings.
