Veteran Cranes star Jimmy Semugabi dies

Veteran sportsman Jimmy Bakyayita Semugabi, who played on the Uganda Cranes team in the 1950s and 60s, has died.

Veteran sportsman Jimmy Bakyayita  Semugabi has died, reportedly after suffering heart failure.

The ex-Uganda Cranes star and soccer administrator breathed his last on Friday.

FUFA President Moses Magogo says it is a "trying moment" for the local football family following Semugabi's death.

He wrote on the federation's website: “It is sad to lose a football administrator and former Cranes star who served his country wholeheartedly. These are trying moments for the football fraternity following the death of Mr. Semugabi. The federation extends its sympathies to his family, friends and football fraternity."

Semugabi was part of the Uganda Cranes side in the 1950s and 60s and once played for Express FC.

The veteran sportsman was also part of the Uganda Cranes teams that featured in the 1962 Nations cup finals in Ethiopia.

He coached Coffee FC and led the team to Uganda Cup glory in 1971. Semugabi also managed the Uganda Cranes.
