Apollo becomes a class act with 'Woman'

Apollo Kagimu.  Sounds familiar? It’s coming to four years since he first breezed on the scene with a lovers-rock flavored   ‘Ow’omukwano.’ Sadly, as we were beginning to warm up to this awesomely talented singer and songwriter, he disappeared.

So, we did what always do best—we lumped him with the one-hit wonders. It turns out we were too quick to bury him.  He is back! And back with a vengeance. He has just dropped a new tune titled ‘Woman,’ which he wrapped is a new sound and relevant tone to connect to a younger audience.

What took him so long?  Well, here is the reality about most Ugandan pop recordings. They chronically suffer from poor arrangements, orchestration and mixing.

Sick to the marrow, Apollo decided to scour the net for better recording studios abroad. He stumbled on  66 Music, an international music production and publishing house based in Wollongong and Canberra, Australia, whose services include producing world class tracks for established and aspiring musicians.

Apollo records the basic tracks for his songs in Uganda and sends them via online the folks at 66 Music to work their magic. If we are to go by Woman,a homage to the most important persons in our mankind’s lives- the Woman, they surely know how to strut their stuff. 

Yes.   Apollo writes good songs with damn catchy tunes and is a good singer who sports a deeper-pitched, baritone voice that is pleasant to the ear. But without 66 Music, ‘Woman’ would be another ordinary track!

66 Music have not only  given  Apollo’s ‘Woman’ a crisper sound, they make  it an enjoyable pop record laced with crossover genres that include assortment of roots,  dancehall reggae and a far-reaching pop vibe that is uncommon.
The thumping kick and deep rumbling bass line does not disrupts it’s reggae and dancehall flavor.

Apollo’s backing vocals not only enhance his lead, but also add a subtle yet rich texture throughout the entire song.
Quality is what's exuded on this single. It’s no surprise it’s perched on top of Capital Radio charts and is shaping out to be a club banger.

For me, ‘Woman’ is the best pop-reggae tribute to the woman that I have ever heard by a Ugandan artiste. Keep them coming Apollo.
