TEACHERS in Kampala have resolved to suspend their planned strike over salary delays and unpaid arrears.

Teachers from Kampala, Bushenyi and Wakiso districts had resolved to march to their respective district head offices to demand for the release of their salaries and arrears.

The Uganda National Teachers Association (UNATU) held a meeting with the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) at City Hall on Sunday, in which they agreed to halt their strike.

Shortly after the meeting, the UNATU chairperson for Kampala, Experito Kisekka appealed to teachers to call off their planned march to City Hall to demand their pay.

“We have had a fruitful discussion and agreed that all teachers in Kampala should resume their normal duties as KCCA resolves the matter,” he stated.

In Kampala, at least 2,000 teachers in Kampala are affected.

Jennifer Kaggwa, the director for human resources assured the teachers that they would receive their salaries for March by the end of the week.
