Kampala University pick first win

ALLAN Anguyo notched a lone goal for Kampala University before denying Uganda Martyrs University a would-be equaliser at the Nile Special University Football League at Villa Park on Tuesday.

Skipper Anguyo struck from a free-kick in the 64th minute as the defending champions rediscovered their scoring boots after last week’s opener with Makerere University ended goalless.

Villa Park was briefly thrown into confusion after centre referee Godfrey Kyesimba ignored what looked like a certain goal.

In a goalmouth scramble, the ball rolled across the goal line and struck the bottom the goalpost before Anguyo could hack it clear. Uganda Martyrs’ players appealed vociferously for the goal to be awarded but referee Kyesimba stuck to his guns.

The competition continues on Wednesday when Ndejje University confront Kyambogo University without almost half of their starting line-up.

Yunus Luwaga, Andrew Katende, Samuel Matovu, Dennis Lony and Johnson Nsubuga, who also turn out for Ndejje’s Big League side are barred from playing in the league under the new rules.

But absence of the players hasn’t affected coach Raymond Komakech’s confidence who insists that his team will ably challenge Kyambogo.

“The boys have been training together with the Big League team and I am sure they have picked up a thing or two. Kyambogo will have the edge because they are at home but my team is good and I know that we shall come away with a good result,” Komakech said.

Ndejje will be playing their first match but a win for Kyambogo University will see them go top of Group B with four points from two matches.

Kyambogo University coached by Deo Sserwada has been boosted by the return of key strikers Francis Jemba and Herbert Galiwango. 

The duo was missed Kyambogo’s match against Nkumba last week.
