12 time regional champions NIC are eyeing their second win in the group stages as they take on JKU from Zanzibar at the ongoing East Africa Netball Club Championships in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania today.
The team led by Desire Birungi made an impressive opening statement after it endured a tiresome two day road trip to wallop host team Magereza 55-21 in the opening game at the National Stadium over the weekend.
Peace Proscovia, Hadijjah Nakabuye and Rachael Nanyonga played the scoring role as Martha Soigi kept a solid backline giving the home side a hard time at their own ground on Saturday.
The opening victory acquired NIC 2 points to also take an early lead in Pool A. The pool that is also the group of death has got Uganda Prisons and Mafunzo from Zanzibar as the other teams.
The week-long event will see other Ugandan teams Uganda Police and Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) who are both making their first appearance at the annual event take on MOI and JKT both from Zanzibar in Pool B at the same venue.
Meanwhile in the men’s category, Kampala University will be battling Police Zanzibar, Kazaroho and Ganec in Pool B while defending champions Kenya Prisons will be up against JKU, Mangaya and Jiji from Zanzibar.
The 14th edition of the annual event has attracted nine clubs in the women’s category and eight in the men’s side from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar.
