UMX sacks manager Mpeirwe

UGANDA Motocross Club (UMX) has elected a new executive that has been tasked to win back the confidence of both the stakeholders and sponsors to the club for the development of the sport.

Jacques Schrier was elected unopposed over the weekend as club chairman replacing Nick Walling who has been the acting chairman since 2012.

The members also sacked club manager John Mpeirwe and a replacement shall be named soon.

Mpeirwe was accused of mismanaging the club’s resources leaving it wallowing in debts so much that at one time members wanted to dissolve the club.

“We have not just elected for purpose of changing leadership but it is tasked to rejuvenate the image of the club and lure back sponsors and stake holders that had lost confidence in the club and its activities,” Arthur Blick Jnr, UMX founder told New Vision Sport in an interview.

“To be honest even riders had lost trust in the management and I think this change will have a big impact especially when we are organising the second round of the Mountain Dew Motocross Championship next Sunday,” Blick who is also the national team captain added.

Schrier called for support from all stakeholders so that they can put the club and the Garuga track back to their original status.

“I know we are indebted but that is not our major concern. Our focus is to utilize the available people willing to support us and bring back sanity to the sport,” Schrier stated.

The assembly also elected Steven Lyazi and Machi Farooqui as vice president and secretary respectively while John Princloo and Janet Omar were retained as treasurer and assistant secretary respectively.

Others elected to the executive committee include Patrick van Pee and Jesse Karmstra.
