When I fell in love with Nassolo and decided she would be my future wife, I took her to meet to my foster  parents but I was not prepared for their harsh reaction.

I was shocked when they told me: "Don't you dare bring an albino here!"

We are now newlyweds but I am still hurting because it feels like my foster parents who raised me as their  own disowned me. That is how Moses Ssali starts narrating his story.

Ssali wed his albino wife, Susan  Nassolo of Nateete in a ceremony that will go down in the books of history, thanks to his friends and  well-wishers who financed it.

However, he says unknown to the throngs of well-wishers his own parents rejected his wife because she is an  albino, and despite all the joy and happiness, he is still hurting. Ssali lost his biological parents and was raised by an uncle and auntie.

The newlyweds are driven around town after their traditional wedding

The newlyweds formalised their relationship in a traditional marriage after Nassolo introduced Ssali to  her parents in Busega.

The ceremony that was the talk of the area was fully financed by friends and well-wishers. The few friends  who knew of the treatment Ssali's parents had given him drove the happy couple around Nateete and Busega as  if to spite his parents.

The couple later hosted their guests at a reception inside Busega market.

The story of the lovebirds

Ssali says he first saw Nassolo last July as she passed by his stall in Busega market where he makes chapatis. He says he called her but she ignored him.

He says a few days after that first unsuccessful and accidental meeting he attended a show of Eagles Production and Chameleone at Buloba where he saw Nassolo again. He approached her and asked her to dance and that night she was his date.

They exchanged phone numbers but he took a whole week to call her because he had no credit on his phone.

When he finally called her to visit him home she obliged and then after a chatty afternoon he judged that  she was a well-mannered person and was a good cook.

He then asked if she was a in relationship but she told him she was single though she had two children. He says he was not deterred by this because he felt genuine love for her.

For some time they saw each other as friends till he heard word at his work place that someone too was interested in her.

"I decided if I was to win this girl I had to act like a man and ask for her hand in marriage," Ssali says.

"She had also told me her grandmother wanted to see me," he says.

At that point I informed my foster parents about my prospective wife. They gave me a day to take them the prospective wife so they could see her.

Just to prepare them for the visit I informed them that she was an albino. And alas!

"What followed hit me like a thunderbolt," Ssali narrates. "Don't you dare bring an albino to this clan!"

Ssali says even the meeting they were holding ended immediately and there was no further discussion as they even warned me not to marry her.

However there was another auntie of his who did not attend the meeting. He called her and informed her of what had transpired.

After listening attentively on phone, she told him one thing: "Marry your girl if you love her!"

He says her auntie told her that even her paternal grandfather was an albino!

At this point he rallied his friends and told them of the impending big day. They promised they would help  him realise his dreams of getting a wife even if my parents wanted no part of it.

Ssali says now that they are husband and wife he is uncertain how his parents will even treat their children.

Nassolo's story

When Ssali first approached me I thought he was just joking around just like the father of my children.  That man had never even come to our home. When I told him my grandmother wanted to see him he refused to come. That is when I left him.

Whenever he brings things for the children he sends a bodaboda home. He never reaches himself. That man  even surprised me when he came to my wedding and gave me sh40,000 and a portrait of Jesus.

I love music so much and David Lutalo is my favourite artist. Even my husband met me at a show but I did  not expect he would come to meet my people.

When I told my grandmother I had met a man she said she wanted to see him. When I informed Ssali he did not  even hesitate and I was quite surprised.

I refused to give my children; one who is one and a half years and another three years, to their father because he really mistreated me and neglected them. They were always with my relatives.

Nassolo is well known among residents of Busega and Nateete as a party girl as she never misses a show. She is also an avid football fan and supports Arsenal. She says musicians like her so much and always call her on stage to dance when they hold shows in the area.
