Ugandan players best in the region - Micho

CRANES coach Sredojevic Micho has urged Ugandan soccer players to consider offering their services in better leagues than those in the East African region.
 
Micho made the appeal in his speech before receiving the Nile Special Uganda Sports Press Association Sportsman of the Month of January award on behalf of Cranes striker Yunus Sentamu at a dinner held at Lugogo Tennis Club on Thursday night.
 
“Ugandan players are the best in the Kenyan, Ethiopian, Tanzanian, Rwandan and Burundian leagues, it’s high time they start thinking of playing in top European leagues,” Micho stated.

He lauded Sentamu for being a principled player who loves football said the youngster has a future if he is not distracted by the enemies of Uganda football.

“The enemies of Uganda football are Ugandans themselves and if they don’t stop that and start working as a team, then Ugandan football is going down,” Micho stated.
 
The Uganda Cranes coach who excited the guests by showing his rare dancing strokes was convinced that the award went to the right person.

“He has a bright future in football. Discipline is paramount if all players want to reach greater heights’ they should be disciplined,” Micho added.
 
FUFA vice president Darius Mugoye explained that the federation is in the final stages of setting up schools of excellence in the eight football regions which will help spot young talent.

“The federation will continue to support youth football. The senior team needs a pool of talent and that is why FUFA is starting up such projects” Mugoye stated.
