Several motorists in Gulu were forced to pay heavy fines after they were netted in a traffic police operation that covered a number of streets in the town on Monday.

Most of them were nabbed along the recently revamped Gulu Avenue.

Between 8:00am and 12noon traffic police  had issued demand notes worth over sh800, 000. Most of the victims had ignored the “Keep-left” road sign.

Gulu district police Officer, Festus Ojobile said most drivers and motorists in Gulu town are so reckless to  the extent of deliberately violating the traffic regulations  thus causing  road accidents.

“We are tired of drivers and motorists who do not listen  to advice from police and sensitization of road usage. That is why we are arresting and fining them according to the Traffic Acts and Regulations”, said Ojobile.

The Police Spokesman, Okema said drivers and motorists who do not adhere to traffic regulations must be arrested and charged in court or   pay traffic fines as revenue sources for the government.
