Former Ankole premier Kabaireho laid to rest

trueJohn Kabeireho, the former premier of Ankole Kingdom was laid to rest on Saturday, his family has confirmed. Kabeireho was the Prime Minister of Ankole Kingdom from 1960 to 1963.

Kabeireho was laid to rest in his ancestral home in Bwoma Village, Ryeishe Parish, Bumbire Sub county, Igara County in Bushenyi district.

He is survived by children, grandchildren, great grand and great-great grandchildren.

The celebrated educationist turned politician died Wednesday in Kampala. The 90-year old succumbed to a combination of diseases including Prostate Cancer and Stroke.

William Katatumba, the prime minister of Ankole Kingdom describes Kabereiho as one of the first recipients of tertiary education in the Ankole who later committed his whole life to the cause of eradicating ignorance from Uganda.

Kabereiho joined Makerere College in 1945 where he completed his Teacher Training Certificate Education in 1947.

Thereafter, he served at St. Peters Nsambya, St Mary’s Junior Secondary School Rushoroza Kabale, St Joseph’s Junior Secondary School Nyamitanga and in 1951; he was posted to Ibanda Vernacular Teacher Training College as Tutor.

While serving as the Premier, Kabeireho attended the internal self-governance Conference at Lancaster House in London in 1960 as head of Ankole delegation.

In 1961, he again led the delegation to the independence conference held in Marlbrough House in London.
