ENTEBBE - A prison warder attached to Sentema Prison in Wakiso district has been sentenced to death for shooting dead his wife, a fellow prisons staff, in 2012.

Emmanuel Drazua, 29, was convicted by Justice Wilson Masalu Musene at the ongoing Entebbe High Court criminal session, after prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that he murdered Erina Amaite on August 13, 2012 within the precincts of the prison.

Drazua, on hearing the death sentence, fainted in the dock. He eventually composed himself but remained squatting, while holding his head as the ruling went on.

“No one is allowed to take away the other person’s life unless it is authorised by the law,” Musene said.

Musene told court that the convict had already confessed to having killed his wife and must be given a punitive punishment to deter the would be offenders.

Prior to the gruesome incident, the couple had separated over marital misunderstandings, according to the prosecution.

Musene quoted the convict’s plea, saying “I am the one who killed my wife but I had no malice aforethought”.
