There was tension on Friday at the Kampala city abattoir, commonly known as “Lufula”, where about 10 people were critically injured and rushed to Mulago Hospital.

The scuffle ensued at about eleven o’clock when a group of about 30 ‘thugs’ wielding iron bars, hammers, pangas, and other sharp objects stormed the abattoir, eye witnesses said.

“They straight away headed for the chairman’s office (chairman of the place). Then one of the men swung a panga at him (the chairman). He wanted to cut off his head. But good enough the chairman dodged it. That is when another man hit him on the head with an iron bar,” a male witness who preferred anonymity said.

“Then we also mobilized and descended on them (the thugs),” he said.

Police records show that a total of 10 people were critically injured. Cut with pangas. They were rushed to Mulago Hospital after being rescued by the Police.

The names of the injured include, Deusteo Kamulegeya, Isaac Abdu, Mawazi Kasala, Samuel Serunkuma, Benon Ssembatya, and Brian Mugisha.

Others are, Moses Ayesigwa, Vincent Katooke, and one who could only be identified as Enock, plus the chairman Abbey Mugamba.

Jinja Road Police boss, Wesley Nganizi, was in charge of the operation.
