Vision Group has partnered with National Forest Authority (NFA) to restore over five hectares of the natural forests in five districts in the central, west and north.

The districts are Mbarara, Gulu, Lira, Kampala and Soroti.

The media company’s chief operations officer, Gervase Ndyanabo and NFA corporate affairs manager, Buyerah Musamali signed the partnership at NFA offices, Bugolobi in Kampala on Wednesday.

Ndyanabo said the partnership with NFA in the districts is geared towards restoring indigenous tree species in an effort to bring back the value and volumes lost from those areas due to degradation.

“We have agreed to cooperate in the area of reforestation of critical landscapes through the planting of trees to contribute to the environmental conservation and curbing the impact of global warming and climate change in the country,” he said.

Ndyanabo said Vision Group takes pride in being one of the leading media institutions in the country that fight and protect the environment through its different media outlets.

These are: NewVision, Bukedde, Rupiny, Etop and Orumuri, Bukedde TV, Urban TV and TV West, Radio West, XFM and Bukedde Radio.

“As Vision GROUP we have partnered with many organizations in order to ensure that we protect our wetlands and forests in the country.

“We have done this through publishing stories and photos that depict individuals or companies that are involved in destroying our eco-system,” said the operations officer.

He cited the recent Mabira Forest saga around the massive deforestation taking place there, which New Vision covered extensively.

“We are encouraging our own staff to be involved in the actual tree planting exercise throughout this period of the project,” he said.

NFA corporate affairs manager, Buyerah Musamali hailed the partnership and promised to mobilize communities to participate in the project.

“We shall exchange and share relevant information and even develop comprehensive performance monitoring plan for purposes of evaluation,” he said.
