15 students of Buyaga Progressive secondary school including senior four candidates have been struck by lightning leaving them unconscious.

The students were rushed to Dr. Kakibogo’s clinic in Kagadi in critical condition where they are being treated with burns and trauma.

The affected students have been identified as Geoffrey Murungi a senior 2  student who is in critical condition, Enock Atuha S.4, Steven Wabyoona, Edward Abiine S.4 and Victor Lucky S.4.

Others are Frank Tinyefunza S.4, Geoffrey Bahati S.2, Vincent Kababa S.1, Gloria Akunda S1, Manige Abiya, Abel Halera, Dickson Namara S.4 and one only identified as Boaz.

Abiine one of the survivors told New Vision that they were in the dormitory when a huge bang was heard and in a short while they were all on ground.

“I did not know what happened until when I was in a clinic,” said Abiine.

The lightning struck Tuesday evening at around 6:10pm after a heavy down pour.

The affected students told New Vision that the school does not have any lightning arresters and believe this could be the reason why they were hit by the lightning.

Efforts to get a comment from the school administration were futile as they could not comment on the incident by press time.
