When Hassan Kalyango started poultry farming, he realized the need of having various types of machines on his farm.

He then bought various machines, and among them, was a maize milling machine that he says has really made work on his farm easy.

Kalyango has over 2000 egg layer chickens and to feed all these birds requires him to either buy over 300 kilograms of maize on a weekly basis or have them milled at his farm.

To make his work easy, he decided to plant his own maize on a large scale so that issues concerning maize and maize brand, are solved.

With his maize mill, he has really simplified work on his farm coupled with cutting on costs involved in buying maize brand and transporting it to the farm.

How it works

Kalyango says that maize mills come in various sizes and shapes and work both with power engine or diesel engine depending on what the farmer prefers.

He adds that with this machine, a farmer will have his maize worked on in any form he wants.

“Maize is cleaned to remove all the stones and dust before its put in the mill. After, the maize is poured in the hauler that transports it to the mill,” explains Kalyango.

He says that while in the mill, the miller is expected to set it depending on the desired bi-product.

“With a mill, maize can be broken down into small particles, flour and maize bran as a bi- product,” he explains.

He adds that you can sell the flour, and used use maize-bran to feed the chicken.

He urges farmers to have at least a maize mill on their farms to cut cost or make their work easy.
