Bebe treated me like a baby

Sep 25, 2013

He always treated me like a baby, so he thought I was not ready. When I went ahead with my plans, he told me that I should take a break from the band. But the good news is, I believe in myself. I will make it even without him.

After being fired by Bebe Cool, Rema is ready to make it on her own. Carol Kasujja talked to her

Is it true that Bebe Cool kicked you out of his band?
We just failed to agree on whether it was time for me to hold a concert. I wanted to have it this month and he did not like the idea.

He always treated me like a baby, so he thought I was not ready. When I went ahead with my plans, he told me that I should take a break from the band. But the good news is, I believe in myself. I will make it even without him.

By the way, how was the pay when you were in Bebe Cool’s band?

Some people used to complain that they were getting peanuts, but I was happy because he had helped me build my career. People did not know me and Bebe Cool gave me a platform that has enabled me to become a household name.

I am told you and Zuena never used to talk.

I respected her so much that I even feared to talk to her. I had nothing against her.

Maybe you should call her and get her view. Once in a while, we would talk about make-up, new hairstyles, shoes and dresses and she would advise me.

I always see you at night with Eddy Kenzo. Are you guys dating?

Can’t you people just get used to the fact that we are just friends? I am not dating him, he is just a friend.  I am single and content. Right now, I am dating my music.

Now that you claim to be single, what is your ideal man like?

I am looking for a down-to-earth, God-fearing man. I want a man who keeps his word. Not one who will tell me something today and changes tomorrow. I do not want a short man.

The last time I checked you were choking on retakes, did you eventually graduate?

I gave campus a break last year. It was not because of retakes. I realised that the administrative and management science course I was doing was not going to help me. So I decided to change and pursue fashion and design, which will make me more creative. I am a bright girl who cannot fail.

What do you do with all the money you get from concerts?

It is not as much as you think. But after this concert, I will plan something.

You have a show on the same day with Juliana, aren’t you scared?

I am not scared of having a show on the same day with Juliana because we have different fans. Juliana’s fans can afford Serena and mine can only afford Equatoria.

I cannot even pretend to hate Juliana. I have always admired her.
